With Microsoft releasing its new operating system into our midst, there are bound to be a few questions. Most of them can be summed up with “How is this going to affect me?” Whether you are talking about an existing badge system, or your decisions about an upcoming purchase, questions about compatibility and longevity can weigh heavily on a decision. No one wants to make a bad investment, and no one wants to be forced into a new solution sooner than they need.
The good news with Windows 10 is that there doesn’t seem to be as much upheaval as there certainly could be with the release of a new operating system, at least not for those doing the “free upgrade” version of acquiring the software.
Srollout roll out just a few months ago, here at ADVANTIDGE we’ve been doing our best to get a feel for the reliability and ease of transition for as many of our major products as we’re able to. The good news so far is that we have had a large amount of success integrating Windows 10 into our existing systems using software and hardware from all of our major manufacturers. Testing is certainly ongoing, but our experience so far is that if a product, software, or hardware, worked with Windows 8, we are having success having it work with Windows 10 via the upgrade.
Unfortunately, those doing a fresh installation of new hardware are not going to have much luck. It appears that the current driver packages from major manufacturers can’t seem to locate the right place to install them. If you have a new computer sporting Windows 10 that has never seen one of these printers before you won’t be able to install it at this time. That goes for many peripherals as well. That includes things like bar-code scanners and magnetic encoders. Hopefully, we see some improvement in the situation soon, but all of the manufacturers we’ve reached out to don’t yet have a timetable for the needed updates.
