Proximity cards are no where near as secure as they used to be. As with any security technology, the longer it exists, the more people learn to manipulate it. With proximity badges (also know as RFID cards) in circulation for 20+ years, that’s exactly what happened. Today, proximity data can be skimmed by cheap devices one can buy on Amazon, and then easily duplicated, making it an ineffective and unreliable option for securing your organization.
The problem: A large health care organization with 10,000+ personel and 1,000+ access points came to ADVANTIDGE requiring a higher level of security than their proximity system could offer.
Our experts were able to provide an impactful solution. With 40 years combined industry experience and a consultative approach, our team was able to help this organization seamlessly implements their newer, safer access control system.
The solution: One of our top brand partners developed next-level access control technology. The new iCLASS Seos cards from HID Global offer an additional layer of encryption in the embedded chip that makes duplication impossible. They come in the same credit-card-sized credential that can be personalized like a visible ID badge. Best of all, the new technology has a similar price per card, so keeping your facility secure doesn’t mean paying more for future credentials. This was exactly what our client was needing.
The challenge: The new smart cards require a new reader be installed at every door with electronic controls. With over 1,000 doors across multiple campuses, changing out each reader was no easy task–not to mention the 10,000+ new Seos cards that would need to be issued to employees and contractors.
A smooth transition: Because of our deep industry knowledge, ADVANTIDGE was able to create a smooth and safe transition plan from the old prox card technology to the new Seos.
HID RP40 readers were configured to read both the old and new technologies simultaneously. This meant the medical organization could begin the process of doing reader replacements as well as issuance of the new card type right away. Once the transition was complete, the prox reader portion of the reader was easily disabled making the new secure iCLASS Seos badges the only option moving forward.
An access control system should be personalized to your organization’s needs. With an Seos upgrade plan from AdvantIDge, you can feel confident in securing even the largest campuses, controling who has access to facilities, while protecting the most sensitive areas.
Additional access control benefits for health care systems: Access into high security areas often requires two-factor authentication by authorized personnel. Healthcare security systems can provide video surveillance in parking lots and throughout facility grounds, triggering alerts when unauthorized entries or exits to/from buildings are attempted, protecting patient records and other sensitive data.
