Advantidge has won a contract to support the National Veterans Administration (VA) with their more than 500 HID Global Fargo HDP5000 ID card printers at national and international VA ID card credentialing centers.

The Veterans Administration adheres to the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) PIV ID badge processing regulations, implemented by President George W. Bush Aug. 27, 2004, requiring the development of a secure interagency personal identity verification process for federal employees and contractors.

PIV ID cards are compliant with FIPS 201 standards and have certain required elements that must appear on the front and back of cards, such as Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) digital certificates and biometric smart card features.

PIV ID cards are used at all VA facilities, and in addressing the high volume of ID card printing required by the enormous quantity of VA members, the Veterans Administration relies on HID Global Fargo’s trusted HDP5000 ID card printers for the printing of their secure HSPD-12 PIV VA member ID Badges.

Since September 11, 2001 the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has required that every airport in the country upgrade the security of the ID badges used by airport employees and all others who work on airport premises. LAX has additionally implemented the Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) Program, which establishes regulations for a system-wide common credential card for all personnel requiring unescorted physical and/or logical access to secure areas of a transportation system.

The national TWIC program requires the issuance of a tamper-resistant Smart Card containing the biometric fingerprint information of authorized employees, in order to ensure that authorized smart cards belong to the people carrying them. Taking into account their need for fast, high-volume ID card printing incorporating top of the line security features that meet TWIC standards, Advantidge guided the LAX security team to the Zebra ZXP Series 8 ID Card Printer, which they are now using with dual technology iClass magstripe cards instead of regular proximity cards for added security.
